I had the exact same with a student years ago with copper sulfate crystals. I delighted in reading them the MSDS (“convulsions, paralysis and coma”)

I’d guess dependent on student age as well, the students I taught who tried it were between 13-16 years old which I feel is probably the peak age for making decisions without considering the consequences

Could be! Although kids eating copper sulfate definitely predates the appearance of TikTok, which only just existed towards the tail end of my teaching career.

A colleague just incredulously emailed me this article and I, completely unsurprised, noted that while teaching I had at least two students try to eat copper sulfate crystals. Something about those blue crystals is clearly too alluring!
