A beautiful tribute to Sue Goldie, capturing her brilliance, determination, & humility:

"Sue is not a swimmer, cyclist or runner. She will become the rare triathlete, she says, 'who sucks at all three.'"

Her work has been an inspiration. Her athletic accomplishments amidst Parkinson's, next level.
It’s hard to put into words how inspiring Dr. Sue Goldie is.

An extraordinary teacher, researcher, leader, and mentor to so many of us @hsph.harvard.edu who now shares her deeply personal story fighting against Parkinson’s disease.

Her story in @nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

An acclaimed researcher is an expert at explaining complicated problems. Now she has to confront the most vexing question: What is happening to her?

More CDC Cuts :: NCHS Edition 📊🔫

At least 1/3 of the staff at the National Center for Health Statistics has been cut (and remain cut). This is catastrophic for our nation’s health data.

Say goodbye to national health statistics that you can trust, healthcare surveys, NHANES and data systems.

1/ #Policies shape our #health.

But why?

We usually think it has to do with how policies change material resources (e.g., access to food, health care, etc) and opportunities.

In @nejm.org, we argue that policies can also affect health by shaping social #narratives.

Public Policies, Social Narratives, and Population Health | NEJM
Public policies, by way of the social narratives they reinforce, can affect health by mechanisms that are independent of any effects on resources and opportunities.

Sharing some encouraging news re: CDC PRAMS. The CDC has indicated they will weight and clean the 2024 PRAMS data. Also, the PRAMS data collection system (PIDS) is up and running again and some sites have begun 2025 PRAMS data collection. Hopefully restoration of the ARF portal is coming soon too.

Heard from #AHRQ that the entire grants staff has been let go! They are unable to issue funds for grants already funded, let alone fund new grants. This is outrageous and will make Americans poorer and sicker. Why? A brief thread about just some recent AHRQ-funded research: #MedSky #HealthPolicy

Ok folks, we know work requirements reduce benefits without increasing work (cc: @chloeneast.bsky.social)

But who loses benefits and what happens if work requirements are reversed?

New evidence from linked SNAP-Medicaid data and a natural experiment in CT tell a concerning story...

Thread below 👇
SNAP work requirements have biggest effect on those least able to work
Most people pushed out of SNAP in Connecticut didn’t find their way back in, even when work requirements were later reversed.

In addition to defunding Planned Parenthood, the bill the House passed this a.m. includes a last-minute change that would make it difficult-to-impossible for private plans on the Obamacare exchanges to cover abortion. Some states, including NY and CA, require such coverage.
