The moderators were also there to stimulate discussion, ask interesting questions, and keep people engaged in a positive way. I know because I was one of them (@humanistNerd speaking here). While not every conversation here needs that level of interaction, I do miss having that function available.

If you believe in an absolute heavenly power that dictates what is permitted and what not, there’s no room for understanding. Of course they don’t get it. They can’t. And they’re probably sincere in their belief, at least some of them. Such absolutes, though, are more comfortable than thinking.
