found a thread of young twitter users under a clip of ed norton in “american history x” asking why such “center-right views on crime and immigration” were being presented as “nazi”

apparently it’s taken less than 30 years for his explicit neo-nazi character to be considered center-right in america.

spent the evening rewatching “remembrance of the daleks” and crying about dursley mclinden. the hourlong documentary they released as part of the bluray box of sylvester mccoy’s second season as the doctor is really something wonderful. is strange to suddenly feel so much for someone you never knew.

woke up today to discover the algorithms must think i’m lonely. all the apps spontaneously throwing ads for AI boyfriend simulators the likes i’d never even imagined before.

update: i got really sick and, aside from a couple remote work meetings where i stayed off camera, pretty much stayed in bed for a couple straight days sleeping excessive hours. and i’ve now seemingly reset back to normal night owl rules. let’s see if it lasts.
historically, if i’d told you my sleep schedule had fallen off again, it would mean i’m staying up all night n finally passing out some time after sunrise. but for the past week, i’ve been waking up feeling fresh btw 5 and 6am, (without an alarm!) and dead asleep in bed well before midnight.

ever since surprising myself by becoming a morning person out of the blue, my greatest confusion is: why don’t any of the major networks show early morning cartoons anymore like they did when i was a kid?

facebook won’t stop showing me ads for a particular pair of ann demeulemeester grey calfskin suede high tops with ladder lacing and a side zipper that i would buy in a heartbeat if they weren’t almost a thousand bucks. why does the algorithm know my taste so well but not remotely my budget?

once again, i find myself thinking about that time the bar rescue guy tried to make a show where he played the role of relationship counselor, trying to fix people’s marriages rather than their businesses. it only lasted one season.

for close to two decades there was only one man i would go to for haircuts. with decreasing frequency as i could handle moderate trimming myself. haven’t made an appointment since 2019 but i’m feeling like it’s finally time to let a professional at it soon rather than jus buzz my unruly head again

i often wonder what’s wrong with my taste buds that i so greatly enjoy jeppson’s malört. wish it were easier to find outside chicago!
malort has the best advertising for any alcohol out there. “it tastes like shit, you’ll hate it, and everyone visiting you from outside the midwest will despise it” and every one goes wild for it and can’t get enough

it’s 4am and i just sent out more work emails in the past hour than i did during actual work hours today. realized years ago that my natural tendency is to reverse night and day. so, time to admit it’s becoming a problem again, find my old UV-blocking glasses and methodically work on this….

just had a family member try argue with me that when the 14th amendment says “all persons born or naturalized in the united states…” they didn’t actually mean to expand rights to anyone other than freed slaves. is birthright citizenship really about to become an originalist vs textualist fight?

i find i keep thinking about this passage from claire fanger’s “rewriting magic” investigating a 14th century benedictine monk’s confessionary journals about dabbling in the occult. there’s just something about describing this misuse of sacrament as “at least in part, an abuse of beauty” that hits.
