Long story here with lots of details. But I need some advice very bad. Essentially I was pulled over and my car was impounded by the DC police department. I have since filed a complaint against the officer and this situation is currently being investigated. 1.I was pulled over in DC around 11am. I live outside of dc in Maryland. (MD tags and license) I rolled down all windows and placed my hands on the steering wheel. The Officer came to the drivers window and said "I'm officer Jones, I pulled you over for the window tint, can you step out the vehicle for me?" 2. I replied, I've never been asked to step out the vehicle for tints, just give me the ticket please as I am late for work. I thought it was weird that he didn't request any documents like a drivers license before asking me to get out. We went back and fourth about getting out the car for a few mins. He finally said "for my safety. I need you to get out." That is when I got out the vehicle to avoid confrontation. 3. As soon as I opened the drivers door, the officer grabbed the door and said that he cannot let me enter the vehicle any more. And he instructed me to wait on the side walk. 4. As I'm waiting on the side walk that is when he came to me and asked for my license insurance and registration documents. I told him that all the documents are in the car. He allowed me to get the documents out of the car but then instructed me to sit back down on the sidewalk. All documents were valid. 5. After about 30 mins of me just sitting on the sidewalk with minimal information, (I asked several times what was going on, he just kept saying sit tight for me) 5 other officers arrived at the scene. 6. As soon as the other officers arrived, the original officer who pulled me over said "ok so this is what's going to happen, we're taking your car because you owe over 200k in traffic fines." now I've never received a ticket in the mail. 7. Ok this part is a little weird and difficult to explain or believe.....When I went to the impound lot I was given a print out of the tickets, with the address on file. So I've had this car for 7 years and never received any tickets in the mail from dc. So for the last 7 years all my tickets have been going to another guy with my same name but lives 4 hours away from me in Virginia. (we actually have the same name and birthday. I've never met him. But our identities get mixed up sometimes. This isn't the first time. One time I was actually arrested at work because he had a warrant. I was released when the officers received a picture of that guy. Even tho we have the same name and birthday we are not the same.) 8. Tickets in DC quadruple. $50 turns into $200. I've probably gotten a few tickets a few times a week for the last 7 years. That is how I raked up $200k in ticket debt. I had no knowledge of this until my car was taken. I don't have a bad driving record in fact I've never crashed or been pulled over for speeding. I have 3 other cars. 9. My car was towed away and I was given a ticket for tint. When I tried to get my car out the impound I supplied my drivers license which clearly had my name and addesss on it and it's not the same as what DC was my car registered to. Final thoughts: I feel like I was wrong filled stopped, and my car was wrongfully impounded. I feel like he tricked me to exit the vehicle so that he can have it impounded. I feel like before he knew who I was, he already decided to impound my car. I wasn't committing any crimes, and all documents were valid. Officer cited that he pulled me over for tints but he never tested the tint. He left me with no knowledge he didn't tell me he was having the car impounded until the other officers arrived. I can't get the car out until I pay 200k. I still have a lien on the car I don't even own the car the bank does. De has my car register to another person that isn't my fault. I live in Maryland with Maryland tags. (very close to dc tho) Final question: Does it sound like I Have a case? Or do I have to take my loss?
