This policy won't last long. Although this might be legal as a "customer service standard" set by the corporation, it will likely be challenged in court as violating anti-discrimination and labor laws — since not every employee can be paid as a "customer service representative."
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.
They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.
If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."
