We're a year away from the GameCube and Xbox being considered "retro" gaming consoles. Also, the PS2 is already there! ACK! My back!
The Nintendo GameCube was released on this day 24 years ago in the North America (2001)

I'm refurbishing a Daytona USA cabinet. The side art is pretty warn with rust staining. Question for all of you: Keep the original art as-is (repairing the corners of course) or re-vinyl it to look like new?

For me, the original Tecmo Bowl (not Super Tecmo Bowl) will always hold a special place in my heart. My dad and I would play this game together all the time. The only rule was that no one could be the Raiders.

Apogee's amazing "Hocus Pocus" was a charming platformer created by Mike Voss. Here's a picture of how the game originally looked (top) and then after a graphics makeover toward the end of its development. It's an incredible transformation!

I stumbled across one of my favorite games growing up: 3-D Ultra Pinball, by Sierra Games. This game was so much fun, and better than Space Cadet pinball included with Windows (though that was really good too).

As a kid with a Genesis, and then a Sega CD, and then a Saturn, this generation of games blew me away. 3D gaming came home from the arcades and it was incredible.

Holy moly, the Retroid Pocket G2 looks really damn good. Basically 2x the performance of the Retroid Pocket 5 at nearly the same price. (I don't need it...I don't need it...I don't need it...ugh...I feel like I NEED IT!)

Okay, no looking it up. :) DOOM was actually id Software's 5th 3D game. What were their first four 3D games?

(Confession: I had no idea until I started reading John Romero's autobiography.)

The team that took the Sega Genesis to malls around the country and had people play it head-to-head against the Super Nintendo. Players overwhelmingly liked the Genesis more when played head-to-head.

The quintessential book on Sega & Nintendo's console wars from the 1990's. It's written as a full narrative from the points of view of the people who lived it. This one is so much fun. If you're a Sega or Nintendo fan, it's definitely worth the read.
