Thought Experiment Of the Day: What are your thoughts of an entire class of students getting A's in Reading on a report card?

The database that is most invulnerable to data breaches is an empty data base.
Withholding data from users is probably the strongest practice to prevent data misuse.

Ridiculous examples, but strong security practices don't have to disempower users.

The more time students spend on screens - more the decline in their well-being index.

Promoting sleep by promoting other guidelines (exercise/screen time)

Students who do not get enough sleep are over-represented in the Low Well-Being Index

So great to see everyone at #AERO24 ...appreciating the value of being in the same physical space with others for a conference. As much as remote has been useful and filled a need, physical presence continues to be important

Public. Data. Repositories.

Research data should be uploaded to data repos where researchers can't (understandably) lose it and which don't have an incentive to magically misplace it (like journals, funders, and unis)

Zenodo, OSF, & figshare all have private options so embargo isn't a valid excuse

....you are doing it wrong.

As you review your data, keep track of the questions you are considering and the answers you find that are shaping your understanding. Use those questions to facilitate your team's data review.

Don't start with what you found, start with how you found it.

Given recent discussions around low response rates, I've posted my speaking notes from the 2023 CSSE Congress where I proposed a four factor model for organizations to evaluate/understand response rates from their survey administrations. cconley.ca/2024/11/13/t... #Surveys
The Four Factors of Low Response Rates
Following are the speaking notes I used as a panelist sharing reflections from the field at the 2023 Canadian Society for the Studies of Education (CSSE) Congress, York University. I proposed a fou…

"A risk of 1 in 1,000 deaths has been commonly used as the threshold for voluntary risks and 1 in 1,000,000 deaths has been used for involuntary risks.

However, most guidance on alcohol consumption has used an acceptable risk of 1 in 100"

@hrbrmstr.dev Looking for a plot you created way back - distribution of line plots with a single line highlighted to show the trend and its relation to the larger distribution. Sound familiar? It might have been around elections but I just can't seem to locate it.

World Geo Histogram ??
Not exactly a histogram and the geo is only West -- East, but this timeline of civilizations/dynasties has a sort of organic flow. Note how the USSR is handled.
