We also have no assurance that the President won’t continue to disrespect and ignore appropriations law. He already did it, with no pushback from Speaker Johnson. How can we trust him to spend the funds as directed by Congress now? 2/3

And as progressive as she was, she was laser focused on winning - not ideology. She’d never let intraparty disagreements interfere. “What plays in San Francisco may not play in Michigan,” she’d remind us, “but what plays in Michigan can play in San Francisco.” That’s how you make a majority. 3/4

One of her greatest skills as a leader and mobilizer was understanding each caucus member’s perspectives and priorities. She knew our purpose, districts, and families. When I disagreed with her from time to time - against her unmatched powers of persuasion! - she knew where I was coming from. 2/4
