Since January 20, too many of Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Republicans' actions have only served to break our government and hurt the American people. If you’ve been affected, please share your story here to help me best represent San Diego in Congress.

Happy 250th birthday to the United States Marine Corps! San Diego is a proud military town and our history with the Marine Corps is intertwined with our values of service, strength, and fidelity. To every Marine veteran, Marines currently serving, and their families, thank you. Semper Fi.

Immigration enforcement shouldn’t be conducted by masked, unidentified agents using unchecked force & recklessly deploying equipment like tear gas. My bill w/ @repdangoldman.bsky.social & @congressmanraja.bsky.social would curb excessive force & make it easier to identify officers acting improperly.

For 40 days, President Trump and Republicans refused to negotiate a bipartisan budget deal that prevents healthcare costs from skyrocketing. In CA50, 28,000 people face higher costs if we don't extend ACA tax credits. We cannot afford to wait, yet this deal does nothing to address this crisis. 1/3

Nancy Pelosi will be remembered as one of the most accomplished and effective Speakers in our history thanks to her tenacity, dedication, smarts, and unwavering compassion for the people. It’s been an honor to serve our nation and California alongside her. 1/4

It’s Day 36 of the shutdown, now the longest in our history. SNAP benefits have run out and President Trump is playing games with Americans’ ability to feed their families. My message to Speaker Johnson is simple: bring the House back into session so we can end this shutdown.

I visited MAAC Project to hear about their work to support San Diego families and to hang out with the kids - the cutest meeting of my week. Head Start programs nationwide have lost funding due to the Republican shutdown. It’s past time to come back to Washington and pass a budget.

Over the next few years, the U.S. will see a 25% rise in energy demand and an 18% rise in electricity costs. Instead of building more energy from every source to meet this demand and lower costs, the Trump Administration is cancelling energy projects it doesn’t like. A 🧵 1/11

ICE told us we can’t conduct our oversight authority and investigate the amount of people and conditions at their facility because of the shutdown. But they’re being paid and working as normal. If there’s nothing to hide, they need to show us that. We’ll keep demanding answers.

CA50 students rely on Impact Aid to bridge the funding gap for schools that serve military families. The Trump Administration recently laid off Department of Education staff who administer this critical program. I joined my colleagues to demand that they reverse these terminations immediately.

A carrier strike group in the Caribbean will not reduce the threat posed by transnational criminal organizations. Instead, it's a potentially destabilizing action without any clear benefit. Congress must step in & make it clear that President Trump is not authorized to launch a war in Latin America.

President Trump is using this disastrous shutdown to cut funding he disagrees with, this time, gutting the Department of Education’s office that oversees special education. This will only hurt children with disabilities. It’s cruel and it’s wrong.

Grocery & energy prices are skyrocketing, & millions are about to lose healthcare. Yet President Trump's priority, per his Press Sec, is demolishing the White House’s East Wing for a $300 million ballroom. The American people didn't ask for a Presidential ballroom. They want affordable health care.

Another blatantly illegal and unconstitutional act by the Administration. Only Congress has the power to declare war. Further evidence that the President believes his power is unchecked. This is dangerous and undermines our credibility abroad.

As a person of faith, I know the power of prayer. It’s important. Sharing our thoughts and prayers after a mass shooting expresses our grief and compassion. But prayer is not a substitute for action to prevent further gun violence. Read my full Op-Ed below.
