Reports are that Hegseth is starting to fire generals that are too "woke" or were close to Lloyd Austin. Factor the pending confirmation of Kash Patel and we will be 95% gone as the world's beacon of freedom. Mark my words, at some point, 45 will declare martial law and cancel future elections.

The Federal Communications Commission was created as an independent agency precisely to keep it as non-political as possible. In fact, we are party to a treaty that requires such independent agencies in signatory countries, including the United States.

This is a comment about the Musk version of AI: “Grok [has a] tendency to make up information and sources in its responses. For instance…the model would sometimes conjure up URLs for web pages that didn’t exist and avoid citing X as a source in its answers.”

The quality of the briefing has next to nothing to do with the outcome in the courts over the political issues they will confront. This columnist is quite ignorant.

Opinion | Why Picking a Fight with Danielle Sassoon Has a Downside for the Trumpists
This kind of conflict was inevitable. It is extremely surprising, however, that the conflict would be sought and stoked just weeks into Trump’s four-year term, and for the sake of protecting Eric Adam...

Bird flu causing egg prices to soar; air traffic safety compromised; Musk gains control of tax returns/SSNs/personal data; USA sells out other countries and allies with Russia; public service under massive assault; corruption rampant. Congressional Democrats: talk about all this stuff.

Ms Sassoon should be getting honorary degrees from Yale and Harvard, her law and college schools respectively. She should be invited to law faculty at both universities right away.

Federal contractors already outnumber federal employees two to one. The "plan" here is to expand federal contracting -- which tends to be far more expensive, less efficient, less well managed, and focused on profits as opposed to public benefits. Some would question the sagacity of this "plan."

Actually, there are western values. They are reality, integrity, freedom, and fairness. That is different than lies, corruption, authoritarianism, and gross inequality.

Let’s assume that someone inside Rightwingery wants to replace income tax with consumption tax. The progressive version of this was designed by Ben Cardin (D-MD) a decade ago. Should Ds propose it now, preempting Trusk Administration?

@tylercowen.bsky.social wants to know what price signals correlate to collapse of rule of law. Good question and the answer is Jay Powell just told us. He is not lowering rates until he sees how the Muskrieg affects federal spending and the R reconciliation bill (where?) cuts government receipts.

The technological entrepreneurism of the 90s was one and same as capitalism and democracy: individuals with ideas had freedom to act; public opinion (not ethnicity) mattered; talent could attract capital to enter closed markets, open new ones. Power could not be used to crush start-up's, people.
