The CCAR is devastated by the terrorist attack on Heaton Park Congregation in Manchester yesterday, which left 2 dead and more injured. These were Jews intentionally targeted on Yom Kippur—the holiest day of the year, when we pray for forgiveness, peace, and for the blessing of another year of life.

We are grateful to law enforcement for swiftly apprehending the shooter. We send our deepest condolences to their families, friends, and their communities. May all who loved Sarah and Yaron be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

The CCAR expresses our condolences to our friends in the Catholic community mourning the death of Pope Francis. Though many of us in the Jewish community may have not always agreed with him, Pope Francis was a man of moral courage, faithful duty, and was a true servant of the people.

As Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas are laid to rest, Reform rabbis around the world share in the collective sorrow and grief for the Bibas family. We send comfort to Yarden Bibas, who himself survived nearly 500 days of captivity, and to the Bibas and Silberman families.

As Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas are laid to rest, Reform rabbis around the world share in the collective sorrow and grief for the Bibas family. We send comfort to Yarden Bibas, who himself survived nearly 500 days of captivity, and to the Bibas and Silberman families.
Today, Oded Lifshitz was buried in Kibbutz Nir Oz. One of the founders of Nir Oz, Oded was kidnapped from his home by Hamas and brutally slain by the terrorist organization. He was 83 at the time of his death.

Today, the bodies of Shiri Bibas, her little children Ariel and Kfir, and Oded Lifshitz, age 83—all Israeli citizens kidnapped from their homes and brutally murdered by Hamas—were returned to Israel.
