The CCAR is devastated by the terrorist attack on Heaton Park Congregation in Manchester yesterday, which left 2 dead and more injured. These were Jews intentionally targeted on Yom Kippur—the holiest day of the year, when we pray for forgiveness, peace, and for the blessing of another year of life.

The CCAR is deeply distressed by the SCOTUS decision in US v. Skrmetti, which upheld a Tennessee law banning gender-affirming medical treatments, including puberty-blocking drugs and hormone therapies, for young people.

At this precarious moment, we pray for all of our family, friends, and communities in Israel, and we send our love and an extra measure of חיזוק to our MARAM (Israeli Reform rabbis) colleagues who are carrying so much emotional and spiritual weight of ongoing war.

The CCAR is horrified and heartbroken by the murders of Sarah Milgrim, ז״ל, and Yaron Lischinsky, ז״ל. These extraordinary young adults died על קידוש השם (al kiddush ha-Shem), “for the sanctification of the Divine Name,” the traditional Jewish idiom for those murdered because they are Jews.

The CCAR is horrified by the assassination of two young Israeli embassy staff members at an American Jewish Committee event in Washington, D.C. last night. We mourn the senseless deaths of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky, two promising bright lights extinguished in a deliberate act of terror.

Moms power the economy. Yet they're paid less, promoted less, and supported less. Moms working full-time, year-round earn just 74¢ for every dollar dads make —and only 62¢ when including all working moms. Today is #MomsEqualPayDay — and we won’t stop fighting until the wage gap is closed.

The CCAR expresses our condolences to our friends in the Catholic community mourning the death of Pope Francis. Though many of us in the Jewish community may have not always agreed with him, Pope Francis was a man of moral courage, faithful duty, and was a true servant of the people.

As Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas are laid to rest, Reform rabbis around the world share in the collective sorrow and grief for the Bibas family. We send comfort to Yarden Bibas, who himself survived nearly 500 days of captivity, and to the Bibas and Silberman families.
