Pretty much all of my novels are in these data sets, and I certainly wouldn't mind getting several million in damages. I even have a charitable foundation I could put that money into.
Open AI’s valuation is at $400 billion. They used about 190,000 books to train their plagiarism bot. Randomly saying 25% of their value comes from that stolen dataset, I think they owe the authors about $526,000 per stolen book.

Nobody teaches you growing up that changing jobs within a year can lead to messy taxes, and sometimes a hefty tax bill. It's a good idea to plan ahead, do the math, and if necessary, put some extra aside.

As a SFF writer who is very interested in religion, in fiction and in real life:
Any attempt to lay out rules or laws or even guidelines for "how to depict religion in fiction" has not thought the matter through, IMO.
I took a basic drawing class and most of it was "look at the thing. No LOOK."
