really recommend this piece, and @resnikoff.bsky.social’s substack generally. A succinct summation of why it is such a pathetic betrayal for big law, media, and academia to bend the knee to authoritarianism. Because it reveals the premise of these institutions to be flatly a lie.

Republicans in the Senate voted tonight while no one is watching to fatten Wall Street profits by jacking up overdraft fees on you.

So much for lowering costs.

While working as national security adviser, I set up a group chat on an open source app to coordinate a strike in Yemen, potentially violating the US Espionage Act. Even worse, I also inadvertently included the editor of a US news outlet, who reported detail of the conversations.

The lives of American troops - and every American life - depends on the people in charge of our government taking their responsibilities seriously. But again and again, including with the incompetence that came to light today, they are demonstrating the opposite.

Millionaires are officially done paying into Social Security for the rest of 2025 as of today.

If we want to ensure Social Security’s long term future, we must scrap the cap and make the wealthy pay their fair share.
How the Super Rich Are Killing Social Security | Robert Reich
Social Security taxes are rigged for the rich — and the program is in danger because of it. A CEO earning $20M/yr pays Social Security taxes on ~1% of their income. Meanwhile, a normal worker pays Social Security taxes on 100% of their income. How does that make any sense?

“A study from Dublin City University’s anti-bullying centre last year found that social media platforms such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts fed and amplified anti-feminist and other extremist content to blank smartphones registered as 16- to 18-year-old boys within 23 minutes of use.”

Interesting read. Maybe it’s time for a 3 or 4 party system? Right, center right, center left and left. Then people would have proper choice. And of course the end of the electoral college so the choice counted.

Grok!
"Since WWII, Democrats have outperformed Republicans on the economy. GDP growth averages 4.23% under Dems vs. 2.36% under GOP. Job creation? 1.7% yearly for Dems, 1.0% for Republicans. Also, 9 of the last 10 recessions started under Republican presidents. Data speaks louder than party lines."

If every Senate Democrat said, "we won't let Musk and Trump do what they're doing to famers, to social security, to cancer research and to every American's health without a hell of a fight" and just repeated that, they'd be shocked by how much of America would be on their side.
“.. We’re just in such a state of shock. We just don’t really even know how to respond,” Gilkerson said. “Everyone thinks all farmers voted for this, but we did not vote for this.”
