#Linux nerds, help me out here! I am trying to give a good ending to a PC with a single core 32 bit VIA C7M CPU. Performance on the distros I tried is terrible, since it's pinned at 100% CPU usage all the time pretty much. I tried Mageia, Puppy and LMDE, all of which ran slow. CPU running cool. 1/4

Small upgrade on my current workhorse! Added some more fans from my brother's computer which I swapped on his for some reverse blade fans I got for cheap. It looks decent, but your eyes don't deceive you - that's a 9 year old GTX 1050 in there! Still kickin' for university work, so can't complain.

Had to say goodbye to my best canine friend today. I will miss you, Blackie. Thank you for everything you brought to my life

This was a ton of work, but man, was it worth it! Did a transformation on my girlfriend's setup so she doesn't need to rely only on her MacBook to get work done anymore. Not only that, but I also rearranged and cable managed her desk so she can see the pretty side of her new PC. Specs in alt text!

End of an era. One of my favorite aircraft liveries of all time. Glad I have a 1:200 model of it until the end of time!

They just shouldn't be there. If there is a technical reason for them being placed there instead of elsewhere, like along the other switches on top of the pilots' heads (let me know!), and the NEED to be in that position, why not put them under a safety cover with a sensor to warn when it's open?
July 11, 2025 at 11:40 PM
I understand they need to be pulled to change from a position to another, but what if the safety mechanism just isn't there for some reason (as SAIB NM-18-33 shows the possibility of this being an issue). But why is it in a place susceptible to accidental actuation? (Read images' alt texts)

I'm a tall person and figured out the monitor arm I was using couldn't raise my display enough. So, now I upgraded and have more clearance and better posture! Took some time to redo cable management as well and I'm happy with the result. Ignore the box under the PC, my cables ran a bit short lol

My first NAS server is assembled!

Not pretty? Check.
Old case with terrible cable management? Check.
Old power supply? Check.
Molex to SATA adapters? Check.
Questionable motherboard? Check.
Fans at max speed and it's loud? Check.
Old, mixed capacity desktop-grade HDDs? Check.

But hey - it works!

Next time I'm trusting my AI-spotting senses lmao

Finally got a case for my small home server. Look how cute it is, secured by the monitor's VESA mount! Don't wprry about airflow, the side next to the was has perforations. And this machine never got past 50°C in open air. Now I'll have to shell out for a good motherboard for the big NAS server...

I guess it's a good sign to see this! I was finally able to create an account with my own domain in it. I did install openWRT on my router (almost gave me an heart attack when it didn't enable wireless by default lol) and, though I still need to get familiar w/it, it's now working! Another milestone

Turns out that trying to install an OS in a cheap flash drive is not the best of ideas! Who would have thought! I kinda feel bad for it tho, it's probably crying in pain. Good old fucking around and finding out

As a lart of this journey I'm also on this side quest of "do these relics of PC tech still work?", in that case: a dial-up modem adapter and a Wireless networking card, both on a PCI interface. The NM70 motherboard I got has it, so I figured I'd give it a go. So far, neither of them shows up in LMDE

Like look at this overkill AF board! I need one so bad, I love it

I'm also hosting pihole thru the same computer, but I changed the default ports to avoid conflicts. Here I have a print from the pihole web interface showing no queries are being blocked. I am genuinely clueless, so if anyone knows what the issue could be would be greatly appreciated. #selfhosting

Well, I found it. Given the video was uploaded less than three hours as of I'm making this post, and that it's the last comment in time order of Youtube Comment Finder (turns out it exists lol), his claim stands legs. Waiting for Rossmann's clarification on the matter.

One more thing: DarkViperAU's comment is definitely of concern. Though I couldn't find Steve's comment, I'll give the benefit of the doubt to Louis, as he may have disclosed it in the first recording, which was corrupted. Still, double standards are not a nice thing, and I'm sure Louis and GN know.

I never completed SMG2 (somehow I lost the disc) and never played the first either. Despite that, I nominate the OSTs as my crunch time music. What helps me get through it all. And thank you YT music for not needing Nintendo's app for all the time that one didn't exist.
