At the end of 2023, I asked my friends to recommend books for me to read over the coming year. I’m almost done with the last one. Here are my thoughts. [1/?]

fascism is stopped when enough people say one of two things:
1) "nah, I'm not doing that"
2) "nah, you're not doing that"

a lot of people want to imagine how they'll say the second thing, but you should *really* start practicing the first one

If anyone’s looking for alternatives to GoodReads, I highly recommend StoryGraph. It’s owned by a black woman, and the platform is so much more accessible and easy to use.

I feel mislead by all dystopian literature. It's supposed to be a powerful authoritarian government that lords over a cowering population, and and we just need need a few brave acts of heroism to give the people the courage to rise up.

Instead it's just half the country being dumb and mean.

I'm convinced that this new cabinet's hiring process is just a combination of "who will be unconditionally loyal to me?" and "who will piss Democrats off the most?"
