The best thing about Kevin Conroy's work is that even though he's sadly no longer with us, his voice is so memorable that you can read a sequence like this and hear his voice and know *exactly* how he'd play the scene.

Seriously, this isn't that much of an exaggeration.

And, yeah- Costner is painfully miscast.
He's not a bad actor, he's just not giving the right performance for this film.
Oddly enough, Cary Elwes was offered the role but he turned it down. Making it a unique situation where an actor said no to the original but "yes" to the parody.

Especially if it was made today, chuds would *lose their mind* over Azeem.
He's presented as Robin's equal, he's the smartest character in the cast, gets a bunch of cool lines, and is an awesome fighter.
He even refuses to bow down to the king in the end.

Another rewatch of a classic film, this time with Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and again it's one of those "Couldn't make this type of film anymore" type of deals.
Very much a "This is a big film with big stars and you have to see it" energy that aren't really made anymore.

That is patently ridiculous!
Next you'll be telling me that reclusive businessman, Tim Kerdforg- seen here at the Louvre moments before the heist- was somehow involved!

I know its trite to say they don't make films like Heat anymore.
But,*MAN*- do they not make films like Heat anymore.
I don't even know if they *could* make films like Heat nowadays.

The real downside to USM ending is that we're likely not going to get an opportunity to see Peter and MJ from the 616 meet up with their Ultimate counterparts.
That would've been an interesting story.

I still say he's the Anti-Monitor to Penguin0's Monitor, and if the two ever met they'd either destroy all creation or be stuck in a stalemate battle for a million years.

We really don't appreciate how bonkers a lot of NES games were.
You're a Kabuki themed superhero in a virtual world.
You're a floating head fighting a zombie apocalypse.
You're a bunch of robots playing battle baseball.
You're a robot girl who can transform into a spaceship.

No, the books were ending. They all knew their books were going to end. Camp stated they were all planned to end because it was all going to be a two year story for all the creators involved.
Camp was the only one who planned to continue but obviously it wasn't set in stone.

@nicklowe.bsky.social Hey, Nick, just wanted to point out that if you're going to write in the letters yourself to make it seem like more people are reading the book than there actually are, you might want to be less blatant about it.

It also ended on perhaps *the* quintessential Doom moment that perfectly defined his character.

It's the "Amazing Grace" story which also clumsily retcons the death of Uncle Ben to happening in a hospital, and has Peter "Lash out" at God for his death, which again spreads the dismissive myth that Atheists are simply just secretly believers who are being unreasonable.

Hell, the story concludes with the revelation that it was the Red Skull- an actual f*cking Nazi- who was behind the whole thing,
which kind of leans into the subtext of "People who don't like Cap are literally the worst people in the world."

Except the story *literally frames* John Walker as someone who dismisses Steve Rogers because he's old and out of touch and that there needs to be a "new" and "modern" hero to be the patriotic superhero for the US.

But that's the point. It's meant to look wrong. It's meant to show Jean Paul Valley's mental degradation in the role, as he slowly twists the Batman imagery more toward his original Azrael look, transforming himself into a hellish mix of the two, setting the stage for the final confrontation.

I mean, that's the *point.* It's not *meant* to be Batman's suit. It's Azrael sticking Batman imagery onto of the suit he already had.
And as the story goes on, it becomes more bastardized until it becomes this hellish mix of both Azrael's look and Batman's.

You know, I've been on a bit of a Spider-Girl kick as of late. And I have to say that beyond the serotonin burst of the whole "Parker Family dynamic" aside, it is a really solid and enjoyable classic superhero romp with a lot of fun ideas and quirky villains.
