We've fallen out of touch, but last I checked, she still enjoyed cooking. She's a better, stronger person than me.

Which is how this acquaintance learned to pluck, clean, and butcher an entire turkey. Also at least 75% of why Thanksgiving dinner was served some time around 1 am on Friday. (The other 25% was owing to an antique stove that would probably have struggled with a couple of chicken breasts.)

What he had apparently not factored in was that upon expiring, the turkey was not magically going to poof into a ready for the oven state. And having fulfilled his role in the adventure, he wasn't about to take that part on.

I have met this person's dad. He is not anyone's idea of a hunter, unless that hunter is Elmer Fudd if he gave up hunting and decided to be a CPA.

Nonetheless. Somehow, because I guess the gods were bored by the football game and needed entertainment, he bagged a bird.

Not my story, but I don't think this acquaintance is on Bluesky, so...one year, she and her family went out to a remote cabin in the wood for Thanksgiving, in an area with wild turkeys. At some point, her dad decided he wanted a real pioneer Thanksgiving.

You can probably guess where this is going.

Stepping down and getting out of the way, I'm guessing.
