what the hell is this revisionist nonsense? This *did not happen*—except in the minds of the far-right. You're buying their bad faith bullshit. MAGA called for and now is building a white ethnostate b/c *they are white nationalists*. That's what they do. FFS

Golden Age!
Brooke Rollins: "We've run over 1,000 simulations. It can cost around $3 a meal for a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli, corn tortilla, and one other thing. So there is a way to do this that actually will save the average American consumer money."

He's building a gold-guilded ballroom to host the foreign officials who come to bribe him, while denying millions of hungry kids food. Just how thuddingly obvious, how over-the-top, how florid & theatrical does this story have to get before the media starts honestly telling it?

This is incredibly silly. Of course he did. What even is the alternate theory of the case? You're not obligated to treat it as some kind of seriously open question just because Trump denies it.

Can’t wait for the nation to have to reckon with the grievances of these conservative action admits when they get to Harvard and find out that nobody likes them!
Here's one of the many clarifying passages in the White House (notionally GSA) letter. It demands Harvard set up a system of political commissars who will enforce hiring and admissions set asides for MAGA luminaries and high school red hats.

What the Trump administration is doing to unions right now is worse than what Reagan did to PATCO, and if TSA workers allow their union contract to be tossed out without striking, public sector union power in America will soon be decimated.

Aside from the obvious direct harm, what's so irritating is that a handful of spoiled ignorant assholes are breaking things that we all built together. They weren't content to own almost everything, they had to wreck what little they didn't own. It's vandalism on a mass scale and has to be punished

Resistance is not going to be just big dramatic things. When you dismiss small acts, you discourage the folks who are testing the waters for the big acts.
I feel as if we're capable of acknowledging that a one-day boycott is mostly symbolic without becoming contemptuous and dismissive of people finding a little meaning and comfort in such a symbol. The scorn seems petty.

Some of the tech bros who mistook trump’s election for a shift in the cultural zeitgeist are going to be sad that the culture makers hate them now.

Has congress passed a law superseding or eliminating the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961?

Has the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional?

Then why are journalists reporting that Trump and Musk are "shutting down" USAID. They are not authorized to do so.

A private citizen does not have the authority to do this. The President also does not have the authority to do this.

This is unbelievably evil and completely illegal.
Elon Musk said on X early Monday he is in the process of closing USAID with Trump's blessing.

“I went over it with him in detail, and he agreed that we should shut it down,” Musk said. ... ‘Are you sure?’”

The answer was yes, he said.

“And so we’re shutting it down,” Musk said.

Face-eating tiger meme still works even when the tigers tell you they’re gonna eat your face
J.P. Morgan econs on Trump’s latest are “increasingly concerned that the policy mix may tilt into an unintentionally far less business-friendly stance. The sustained 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico set to start this weekend is materially different than the tariff increases built into our baseline.”

Very important point. There is no sane world where any of this should be allowed, and yet…
It should be obvious, but let's be clear: if a new president can arbitrarily nullify existing federal contracts, they aren't real "contracts" at all and they aren't worth the paper they're printed on. 🧵

People complain about the “bureaucracy” but in my experience this email is emblematic of the folks that make up the civil service. Actual leadership. Actual principles.
Background: 60 USAID employees had been placed on leave for “undermining” Trump’s executive orders. Nick Gottlieb was told by DOGE to then fire them. Instead he emailed all of them earlier saying he found no evidence of misconduct and used his power to take them off leave. Then he was put on leave.
