In today’s atmosphere, it’s obvious why a book warning of totalitarian censorship would be in the American Library Association’s list of most commonly challenged books
There is no freedom of mind without unfettered access to new ideas. Education is a requirement of freedom, not an optional facet of it.

These are all great examples of how internalized ideals of individual exceptionalism hurts us all. Stop blaming yourself, and start asking who benefits when you accept responsibility for things you have no control over.

the system profits off of your self-blame. because as long as you’re mad at yourself for buying too many things, for not having enough savings, for not picking a better major, you won't organize, strike, demand or revolt. instead, you demand that it’s your fault even if the system is rigged.

I'm still going no spoilers for #Sinners but hands down one of my favorite things about this film (and it is HARD to choose a fave aspect) is how Coogler demonstrated consent. Like, it just shows how rapey most mainstream media is.

I'm so sick of people hyping up the 50s. It was a shit time for most people. The only thing I want to bring back from this time is the corporate tax rate. Period.

I started Susan Faludi's #Backlash today. Published in 1991, the first page could easily be used to describe the 2020s. From the benevolent sexists take on protecting women from the need for success to blaming the "infertility epidemic" on women's liberation, this book has it all!
