I’m hearing similar sentiments from many undergrads and grads so it’s definitely more common than people might think. And I’m not gonna lie, as an early career faculty I’m wondering what I will do if I don’t get funding to do science and train the next generation of scientists
To be fair, this is a kid who's seen both parents have federal grants terminated this year - hopefully the average young person isn't quite as discouraged (though our current reality warrants it), and even more hopefully we'll rebuild American democracy and science so they won't have reason to be.

My teen, who had dreamt of being an astrophysicist, just told me he wants to go to law school because, “Science isn’t going to be a priority in the US in the future…I don’t want a job where I’ll be constantly worried my funding will be taken away.”

Gutting. How many future scientists have we lost?

New post: a talk I gave at some years ago on Gallifreyan Constitutional and Criminal Law is now online! Because sci-fi legal systems are cool, damn it. Or, in the case of the Time Lords, quite the hypocritical mess.

How do you top a highly-detailed scale model of NASA’s new moon-bound rocket and its support tower? If you are LEGO, you make it so it can actually lift off.

Yes, astronomers are preparing to directly image Earth-sized worlds around Sun-like stars for the first time.

Here's how the biggest "missing piece" for getting there just fell into place.
