A stomach-churning, uniquely American tragedy. Happened in the Heritage subdivision of Whitestown. Couldn't have been more representative

Masks, military uniforms, semi-automatic weapons - all to round up day laborers. Supremacist fantasy being played out in real life.

You raise tariffs by 34% after an initial increase of 20%. The opposite side responds with a 34% increase. And that is supposed to be a punch

Interesting summary. @aditixp.bsky.social
What's that, you want a round-up of papers presented at the @oxfordcsae.bsky.social conference last week?

WTF?
I know we can’t run around on fire every time Trump says something but he appears to have just announced the new US policy on Gaza which is to take ownership of it, ethnically cleanse it of the 1.8 million Palestinians there and maintain a long term ownership stake as it’s “developed.”

Since he has none of these attributes, he should be the first one to be fired

ABC (Disney), Washington Post (Bezos), Meta (Zuckerberg), LA Times (Soon-Shiong)... all bending the knee to Trump, all obeying in advance, all sucking up to the Dictator-in-Waiting.

This is (part of) how democracies die. This is the Orban, Putin, Netanyahu and Modi playbooks.

Sadly, this only confirms what we always suspected, but didn't have the energy to verify
Fascinating paper on where 6000 global elites went to college. Billionaires, CEOs, heads of state, central bankers, etc.

In a word: Harvard.

Fully 10% of global elites went to Harvard. Elite US schools are over-represented (23% IvyPlus), but nobody comes close to Harvard.

My #DOGE suggestion: cut the $7,500 federal tax credit for Tesla vehicles. Tesla is on track to sell 1.6 million cars in 2024, so that'll save $12 billion right there.

Watching the India Australia test in Perth. Australia 22 for 4, chasing 534.

Gilchrist on comms asks Shastri and Warner if reaction times become longer with age. They agree, and vindicate my theory of why Sehwag, Yuvraj , Dhoni etc weren't half the players they used to be later in their careers.

This could get interesting.

Adani raised about $3 billion from US markets (via syndicated loans and bonds), which explains the SEC interest. Orders of magnitude: solar contracts with after-tax profits of $2 billion over 20 years. Bribes of $265 million, or 13.25% of profits, but payable up front.

I read that the Netherlands and France will honor the warrant. Other countries are scrambling to come up with an appropriate response. The US, of course, won't do anything.

This place has now become big enough to do what Muskland used to do — give me a sense of what smart people are thinking and, importantly, what they don't know. For example, it turns out that many aren't aware that it's well established that most people don't connect wage growth with inflation 1/
