Am glad I’m not the only research scientist to come up with their best ideas in the shower!
I listened today to Desert Island Discs with Professor Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu. It was great to hear somebody talk so honestly about the excitement and the pain of doing scientific research, the highs and the lows. Great stuff, and the music, of course www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

This is a complete and utter scandal. It will be an outrage if the university that made me redundant can profit financially from my publications. I always thought publishing prolifically would be the thing that saved me. Turns out they can have my publications without paying me.
Yet another scandal brewing within UK Higher Ed: universities can get research money for everyone they've sacked. Big ghost fleets of lecturers who don't exist will be launched into the next Research Excellence Framework. Unis will laugh and cash in (1/2). englishassociation.ac.uk/ref2029-conc...

Amazing to think it was a year ago! It had been a huge effort to get it to Waterloo in January, and still more to make it fit to carry passengers on the Bluebell Railway last September. Further maintenance and enhancement work is currently in progress to prepare it for several outings this year.
1 year since @gordon3417.bsky.social returned to Waterloo after many years of restoration. #GordonPettitt
