it's absolutely wild how people convince themselves of an alternative reality. somehow this person believes their #gasprices are down 70 cents from January while the IL average has risen from the $3.20s to $3.40s.

Tariffs could really help Chinese companies selling on Amazon , Walmart etc because their Cost of goods sold is lower than their competitors. So the tariff paid will be lower. Increasing the price advantage

You can look at pricing-led margin expansion as gouging or you can look at it as companies trying to build cushion in an environment of extreme uncertainty, but either way aggressive pricing did lead to an expansion of margins--what Sam Rines called PoV strategy (price over volume).
Profit margins popped during the pandemic but are now back where they were in 2018-19...
