There's a decent chance Republicans start a civil war if Trump loses. But there's also a decent chance they'll start a civil war if they read the wrong Facebook post about Etsy.

(4) The most important line to draw here is not between "Israel" and "Palestine". It is between those who are excited by dead children and those who are horrified. Those in the former camp, whatever flag they fly, are fundamentally on the same side. They are the true enemy.

(3) It feels certain that the fallout of today will be catastrophic for Israelis and Palestinians alike. But that inevitability should not justify a fatalism-as-apologia. Hamas did not *have* to do this. They made a choice. Israel's policies yesterday and tomorrow? Also choices, not inevitabilities.

(2) This was a catastrophic failure of the Israeli gov policy on every level -- from the operational/intelligence collapse, to the choice to elevate incompetent fascist hacks in obsessive pursuit of authoritarianism, to entire right-wing fantasy that Palestinians can be oppressed into subservience.

A collection of thoughts -- none of which I think are especially novel -- on the situation in Israel. Sum up:

(1) This was a terror campaign. Those who celebrate it are ghouls. Those who already are leveraging it to preemptively celebrate other murders are also ghouls.

The fact that Nazis can walk through Florida without concern for their safety while trans people have to flee the state should tell you everything you need to know about today’s Republican Party.

Platforms are reluctant to admit that they are making editorial choices. I’ll put it this way: you don’t have to be a fancy spot with a dress code, but if people know it’s ok to shit on the floor in your establishment you’re going to get a lot of floor shitters and other customers will go elsewhere.
