Appreciate what Van Hollen is doing but he needs to ratchet up the outrage about 200% and take 10 other US Senators with him.
I’m about to board my flight to El Salvador, where I hope to meet with senior government officials to discuss the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

I also hope to see Kilmar and check on his condition — and remind him that we won’t stop fighting until he’s home.

Are we still paying federal income tax?
"the plan to shrink IRS staff by up to 50% would — very conservatively — lead to a $400 billion increase in uncollected taxes over the next decade. It could easily mean more than $2 trillion in losses..."

www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
Opinion | DOGE says it’s saving $100 billion. It’s about to lose a lot more.
Cuts to the IRS will backfire by giving tax evaders a free pass.

Mahmoud Khalil should be at home with his pregnant wife.

Instead, he's been illegally abducted & had his constitutional right to free speech & due process stripped.

We're demanding his immediate release and we cannot allow this abuse of power to go unchecked. #FreeMahmoudKhalil

the frenzy over the hunter biden pardon is a good reminder that the press knows how to make something a scandal and has decided that nothing trump does is truly deserving of that treatment

Democrats need to get over themselves and STFU. This is real life. Principle is meaningless now.
The New York Times reports on President Biden’s difficult decision to pardon his son.

Stuck between standing on principle and protecting his only living son from potential Trump administration retribution, Biden decided to protect his son.
How Biden Changed His Mind on Pardoning Hunter: ‘Time to End All of This’
The threat of a retribution-focused Trump administration and his son’s looming sentencings prompted the president to abandon a promise not to get involved in Hunter Biden’s legal problems.

I’m going to re-read this every time I feel hopeless. Call your member of congress. Insist Congress pushes back.
If you wanted to panic, the time was the night he was re-elected. Now it's time to take a deep breath and do things like express your views to your member of Congress, and start planning for 2026.
There will be no panic in this dojo.
NOW can we panic?

More news of the cochlear implant bungle in South Australia. I've not seen any information about whether or not any of these deaf children had access to Auslan which would have prevented such a negative impact on their language development. Anyone know? www.abc.net.au/news/2024-11...
Two more families impacted by cochlear implant bungle
The number of families who have been paid compensation over SA's cochlear implant programming error has risen to 141.

Optimist: the cup is half full
Pessimist: the cup is half empty
Sign linguist: notes that Auslan, BSL, and ASL all have lexical signs that can tell you if the signer views the cup as half ‘full’ or ‘empty’ but that signers can also use depicting signs to show how much liquid actually is in the cup.
Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Linguist: quantities are described with regard to a reference state; thus we can efficiently convey whether the cup was more recently full or empty

A friend last night made the (probably obvious) comment that people of DC don’t deserve to be boycotted…and that has made me think I probably will go…it’s not a govt conference.
#ACEDHH2025 is in DC the week after the inauguration. To go or not to go. It’s a favorite conference but…not sure I can stomach it.
