Really fabulous Festival of Economics/British Academy lecture from John Muellbauer! Featuring social housing, land taxes and an abiding sense of Millennial Terror

The community throws a bunch of whimsy back into it, but I get bouncing off the relentless grindark

Scoops 19-20
Gelateria Galliera 49
Pistachio and pumpkin

Ate these much too quickly on the way to a rainy walking tour, and the pistachio wasn't as great as some online reviewers hyped it up, but it was definitely still lush. Alas, Sablè are a three minute walk away and unmitigatedly better

Scoops 16-18
Sablè Gelato, Bologna
Amarena, Crema Bolognese and prickly pear

This guy had an obscene number of awards up on his shelf, so I was honestly rooting for this to just be so-so out of spite. It's genuinely incredible and my only regret is not going back to try the nasturtium

Scoops 14-15
Cremeria Santo Stefano, Bologna
Crema Libanese and Speculoos

A valiant attempt at dessert after ordering way too much for dinner, tragically neither flavour stood out enough to worth mentioning. Still really solid, and not far from the student district with €8/litre "Aperol" spritz!

Scoops 11-13
Cremeria Cavour, Bologna
Mascarpone w/ melted chocolate, coffee mascarpone w/ Terina pie and pine nuts cream w/ toasted pine nuts

The first two were really solid, but that pine nut overdose was incredible. Would honestly have gone back for three scoops of just that
October 18, 2025 at 12:49 PM
Scoops 9-10
Grom, Milan
Sicilian Cassata and "Cream of Grom" (egg custard w/ biscuits)

These guys are all over the place, but the flavours were actually really kinda lacking. They used to have a store in London, it's closed now and probably for good reason
October 18, 2025 at 12:47 PM
Scoops 6-8
Chocolat, Milan

I actually forgot these flavours, but it doesn't really matter because it turns out they don't even have their god-tier Actual Chocolate stuff out at 10am. Go here if you've got any time whatsoever near Cadorna Station
October 18, 2025 at 12:43 PM
Scoops 4-5
Gusto 17, Milan
Salted pistachio and "cream w/ grape compote & walnut crumble"

Went back for an 11pm encore, the salted pistachio was definitely the better of the two. Best eaten while watching a massive traffic jam of black vans trying to drop people off at some fashion event
October 18, 2025 at 12:39 PM
Scoops 1-3
Gusto 17, Milan
Salted caramel, tiramisu stracciatella and crunchy biscuit w/ Modena sour cherries

Absurdly strong start, biscuit w/ cherries probably taking first place. Had to be eaten far too quickly on account of the heat

In ancient times,
Hundreds of years before the dawn of history,
Lived a strange race of people; the Druids

It's an edit of this classic, but on my phone so I couldn't do a proper 'shop with the actual font and had to use the touchscreen to position everything

It's wild seeing Rutte speak to Trump like he's a toddler, I'd love to see the meetings where they had to draft this
