Better reintroduce myself, I suppose 😀

My name is Rae and I live near Brighton, UK. I’m a part-time newspaper subeditor and, when I’m not doing that, trying to save the world, or hanging out with my three kids, I’m mostly buying, reading (separate hobbies, amirite?!) or trying to write books.
A contemporary tale with mythic echoes, The Sirens is a haunting mystery that had me gripped!

The Sirens, by Emilia Hart⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I loved Weyward, but I think, if anything, I might love The Sirens even more.Again we have three female point-of-view characters: Lucy, a student who, one night in 2019, wakes up with her hands around her ex-boyfriend’s throat; Mary who, along with her sister Eliza, is shoved belowdeck on a convict ship sailing from Ireland to Australia in 1800; and Lucy’s older sister Jess, whose story we discover through her diary entries. And again, it is an exploration of female trauma, both historical and contemporary, through layered, interwoven narratives that provide mystery, drama and psychological insight, and bring in elements of folklore and magical realism. And it is all done with the most beautiful, evocative yet unfussy prose. It is totally immersive, if you’ll forgive the pun.A contemporary tale with mythic echoes, The Sirens is a haunting mystery that had me gripped!#bookstagram #bookreview #booksbooksbooks #fiction #speculativefiction

Not sure why I decided to binge watch this with a hangover, but if I wasn’t in bits before, I certainly am now. As a mother of preteens, it was incredibly affecting. #AdolescenceNetflix

The next issue of @rfpress.bsky.social goes live on Sunday, and it includes a little story by me, featuring a magpie called Reggie 🖤
Do you believe in coincidence? No? Check out "Two for joy" by Rachel Swabey and find out if the appearance of a magpie at the edge of a world falling apart is a coincidence or something else altogether. Sunday 12/15!
