Eighty years, the cut-off point of living, collective memory. It is very difficult to maintain the lessons of an event beyond this point, not impossible, but difficult after eyewitness have passed as well as those they told first hand.

Life writes the best of stories. Lovro, an indirect ancestor or mine, a herald of the HRE, was ennobled by the emperor, translated for Leopold I, and authored the first genealogy of the Russian tsars for Alexis I. An amazing career from humble beginnings, owing it (mostly) to education.

Chemistry degrees have some of the highest values of any degree and are vital if we want to build a competitive high-tech nation. But they are expensive, and so if universities want to save money quickly they will just ignore national priorities and close them.

It is so refreshing to be on a network where people argue like civilized folk without flame wars and trolling. Yes, differences of opinion are part of our nature, what makes us human, but it is a sign of being civilized that we can disagree and be polite about it.

At least 49 people were killed in Ukraine’s northeast Kharkiv region on Thursday in what appeared to be one of the war’s deadliest missile strikes, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, describing it as a “fully deliberate terrorist attack” by Russia.
