The narrative in the U.S. is that government should be run like a business - when really government should be here to provide the critical services we need that aren't necessarily profitable.

But here's the thing - there was also a lot of bad done and we shouldn't say "Oh, but he didn't mean it" when Young's sermons did ultimately cause violence.

LDS scholars argue we shouldn't put stock in Young's inflammatory language because that was the preaching style of the time. We should put stock in the good that was done.

It's notable to me that these revocations were caught as part of routine audits. These students weren't informed by the government - they essentially found out randomly through their schools.
