I love Alexander McCall Smith's series (No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Scotland Street, etc) as there's an underlying belief in people's kindness. The fact that every Scotland street book ends with poem about community and love. That Mma Ramotwse often offers forgiveness rather than punishment.

It drives me crazy that people act like phonics will fix everything. Phonics in English is a joke. I've spent the last 20 years trying to teach kids from all language backgrounds to read in English. There needs to be a robust use of strategies to help *all* readers. Here's a great example:

The week Morgan Wallen's album came out was probably the biggest "well, that's all bots" thing I've ever seen on Spotify. Every. Single. Playlist. had like two or three songs from the album. The Latvian charts had his songs on it. I'm sorry, Latvians aren't listening to Morgan Wallen.

This is my standard example. This is the alt-text they suggested: "homer simpson from the simpsons is standing in front of a grassy field."
Not only does it completely misunderstand the context, it actually doesn't register the motion or action being performed.
homer simpson from the simpsons is standing in front of a grassy field .
Alt: The well-known gif of Homer Simpson with a blank look on his face, slowly walking backwards and disappearing into a hedge. The way it is animated is really funny because it looks like he's slowly being enveloped by the greenery. At one point all you can see is his eyes, his nose and his belly.

It's sad because the article about Ruby Rose commenting made it seem like at the start there were a lot of queer créatives involved who were pushed out.

In a significantly weirder case, "Sleeping Lady with Black Vase" is a 1928 oil painting by Róbert Berény. It was lost in WWII, and considered looted by the Nazis and likely destroyed afterwards in the chaos... until someone recognized it as set dressing in the movie "Stuart Little."

Yes, really.

"Shut up and make some drums" that led to Metroboomin's BBL Drizzy still makes me LOL and also shakes me because when that dropped *everyone* was doing something with it: Japanese rap, a sitar player, small children etc.

Yesterday I was picking up coffee and one of the young people behind the bar was doing a whole "we're in the Matrix, birds don't exist" rant semi-ironically and their peer replied with "I can understand why you're upset. It takes you a long time to read." I had to go laugh outside...

Charlotte Parlermino had a great video about how this launch was soaked in MAHA "no toxic" coded language, basically all the stuff that health scams use to scare parents into buying completely unregulated products that will harm their kids.

Has he never transited at Heathrow, like ever? The signs are the same no matter what terminal you come in.
That's like being mad at a Stop sign and insisting the somehow the Stop sign did not say Stop when in fact he was probably just on his phone and followed whoever was in front of him.

Absolutely brilliant. Because it explains your experience and how they affected you, but also gave them a real sense that they have the autonomy, collectively, to chose.
