1/3 My maternal grandfather emigrated from Germany in 1952. He was one of the tens of millions of displaced persons (DP) in Europe following WW2. He wasn’t Jewish, nor was he a Communist. He wasn’t gay or disabled or black. He simply had no home or family to return to.
