It's not our fault we didn't have good modeling or support when it came to emotional regulation growing up; there's no shame in learning emotional regulation as an adult; & there's no shame in not being awesome or consistent at something we're just leaning.

Maybe we're not so much "afraid" of that boss or landlord or other authority figure; maybe they're evoking emotional flashbacks associated w/ authority figures from our past-- to whom our nervous system only knows how to relate from a position of legit vulnerability.
