5 things you can do if you’re pissed off about the latest Trump EO
Donald Trump opened an area of about 250 million acres of protected American waters to industrial fishing fleets on Thursday.  This sets a very dangerous precedent that our public lands and wa…

Live tweeting a review of the dire wolf paper = *chef's kiss* The answer to my own curiosity and skepticism. I 💙 nerds!
alright i have my laptop, guess i'm livetweeting the dire wolf preprint.

so a quick reminder: this is not yet peer-reviewed, so there's some different expectations re: quality.

also let's be clear, i'm a hella biased reader, bc i don't trust the hype they're courting
Briefly read through this and...hmm. I have thoughts that may merit a deeper dive.

One big concern: while their reference method seems reasonable for research uses, I'm thinking that if you want to claim you're cloning one, I'm sorry but you've actually gotta de novo that.

Yes, PLEASE! Interdisciplinary research is cool, but you don't have to be an expert in everything. Read up to see who's maybe already working on the social dimensions of that topic and reach out. With mutual respect, great collaborations are possible!
In summary:

Rethinking how to still do science with reduced budgets is a great idea, and I can help.

Adding a social science survey is a great idea, and I can help.

Adding a social science survey without learning how social science works is a very very bad idea, and yet people keep doing it!

Hello folks, I don't wish to add to the bad news, but I can't let these things go unchecked: they are trying to gut NEPA now. Time to comment, rabble-rouse, make trouble. www.federalregister.gov/documents/20...

Thank you #AAG and #AFS for supporting this letter!
Today, a broad coalition of scientific professional societies who represent over 92,000 scientists are speaking out against the politicization and demonization of Federally funded science and government scientist jobs.

It was an honor to help the Union of Concerned Scientists with this! 🧪🌎

For those who are mad and activated (good) my one hope is that you will look for the people already doing the work. You probably do not need to invent your own new organization or group. Find the people already doing it and join them, listen to them, learn from them.
