I can't believe this literal hellspawn creature that murders, enslaves, and eats people also may have problematic racial dynamics going on, this is TOO FAR

Yea I thought the vees in general were kinda 'meh' in season 1, not bad but just kinda 'okay these are clearly the backup antagonists save for Val and Angel's specific stuff' but this season has really made me love watching them all do their thing.

'this character that's basically a literal demonic abusive and manipulative mother figure is actually really nice' ~ someone who has lost a fight with a mouse trap multiple times in their life

Just because she does it in a soft voice and calls him 'dear' a bunch while stroking his cheek doesn't make that 'nice', in fact that's what makes it frightening! She's a different kind of abusive than, say, Val but it's LITERALLY the exact same dynamic!

It's genuinely wild because I also see reactions to Don't You Forget being all 'woah Rosie's so nice sounding in this song even with the dynamic' and I genuinely worry for these people. Like, the song is her going 'lol I own you bitch, never ask me for things, you're property'!

A non zero amount of this fandom genuinely is admitting to getting tricked by 'horrific creature puts on a friendly face' and acting like they got tricked which just kinda owns.

'good news my lord we've taken Rome'

'based, this rules'

'we had to blow up the colosseum to do it though'

'...wait why'

'seemed like a move to do at the time'

Like we can talk about subtle storytelling and all but she literally makes him tap dance for her while affirming he understands he's her property, I think any discomfort you feel in that imagery is meant to be there!

'woah this cannibal demon who revels in violence and power over others may be problematic????' ~ the smartest media understander on earth

So the "Her own loved ones" line gets me there, because it precisely is the line that is used to get trans people and gay people in patterns of minimal acceptance that can cause a lot of self-harm. It's a pattern of abuse that is hard to identify because it's done under the guise of acceptance.
