I was apparently really close to a green heron another time, as I learned when someone exclaimed "a green heron just flew overhead!!" but I wasn't wearing my glasses and also it was gone by that point. But. All is well now.

Upside of the monocular I got in June: fits really easily in my backpack so I can birdwatch better on my walk home from work
Downside: holding it up to my phone is difficult so I also end up w photos that look like this

I think I maybe saw this heron catch something and eat it, which might explain why it spent over 5 minutes afterwards with its beak slightly agape

After a terrible stretch of time where I couldn't make it to the marsh: I'm back. And used my new monocular and 3x zoom to spy on this beautiful beast.

Getting my new beautiful boy to trust me remains a work in progress, but after a month and a half of living with me he does seem amenable to butt scritches (if it's immediately after I give him gross meat paste), and he will cuddle with my other cat 😌

The sequence of events is that it was on the other side of the pond, and then flew over to my side so I inched closer to get some photos it said "ugh, humans" and flew back to the other side but further down. Oh well. I enjoyed it. Good heron experience!!
