...while Civil Service told Johnson and Cummings that they work for Her Maj, not the PM, and if the PM wants to break Her Maj's laws, then he will be arrested. They deflated one mad Cummings scheme to barricade Johnson into Downing St by pointing out Downing St security would do the arresting.

If judges are doing their job properly (i.e. sentencing according to the law, impartially) then it shouldn’t matter whether they are inflaming tensions. One could argue that deliberately acting in such a way as to avoid inflaming tensions would be a serious dereliction of their duty.
