On occasion of his birthday, I am listening to Hendrix and reminded how, as a Classic Rock kid reaching drinking age, disappointed I was in this beer

Of course, not paying attention at the time that it was a “raspberry wheat beer,” I’d know better now

Was listening to the Best Album of 2001 earlier

Told you all I wasn’t crazy for keeping and buying CDs

By the looks of the voting it was a very unreasonable decision.

In any event, someone somewhere today thinks a lot of both of these albums, which makes it seem like either one is a reasonable decision

I don’t know what you’re talking about

I won’t claim perfection - at least on any objective basis - but these are my favorite albums from the year I turned 16. The death knell of Britpop

According to rateyourmusic, the official top 4 albums of 1989

First CD I bought. It was a single and bought at Armadillo Records (RIP) in Kettering Ohio after my mom received assurance from the clerk that it was “appropriate”

I’d read good reviews of this book and saw it won the Kirkus Prize so I picked it up from the library and it’s stunning. Unhinged and wild and clever and somehow never gets lost in itself

1989 and adjacent Discogs haul. Where’s that 1989 is a bad misc year fucker now?

Also an excellent album and not obscure which makes it even stranger that it didn’t make it

An old friend I haven’t listened to in a long while since nothing sounds good to me this morning. I got this album in high school and had a portable cd player hooked up to my dad’s old wood cabinet speakers and I would sit and vaguely stare off into space listening to this album.

Found it at my library and at a used record store on campus in college. The continued existence of Wilco ensures Uncle Tupelo’s position at the formation of alt-country but their debut - this is their second and my first find - released the same time as No Depression. They broke up after this.
