“Shit human” for my taste in REM albums

Snotty commentary at https://thebestthing.blog
My record store just sent a mailer out with the top 25 best selling albums of the year at their store and AIC’s Facelift, Dirt, AND Jar of Flies were all on it, which was excellent news

From wha I can tell, the music at this orthodontist office is exclusively Shaboozey “A Bar Song” and all its remixes

When I was a tween, my local newspaper had a phone line you could call and hear the Billboard charts and I would call every week for the former and got so sick of hearing this was #1

Eventually, I fell in love with it, sprained my ankle karaoking “Remedy” at a bowling alley, every song is great

The conversation usually stops there
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Kirsty is going to be exhibited alongside Durer, Manet, Picasso and Dali.
Un-fucking-believable!
Weird things happen when you put yourself out there.

Why are these networks entertaining the likes of Dave Portnoy and Pat McAfee?

On occasion of his birthday, I am listening to Hendrix and reminded how, as a Classic Rock kid reaching drinking age, disappointed I was in this beer

Of course, not paying attention at the time that it was a “raspberry wheat beer,” I’d know better now

Was listening to the Best Album of 2001 earlier

Half a boring album vs a whole boring album. So I voted Pixies
November 26, 2025 at 5:22 PM
Picking them to lose to NIN finally did not injure me in this case!
So: there’s a clickbox when setting up the tournaments on Challonge for adding a third place match. I have somehow neglected this, I think, several times in a row, despite knowing I need to do it. I apologize to everyone for whom a 3rd place Cure showing would’ve helped them.
Also, is it just me or is the third place match not showing up in Challonge? Or am I just not seeing it? Wouldn't predicting DISINTEGRATION to win third place account for the total score?
November 26, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Bummer it wasn’t by more
DISINTEGRATION defeats PAUL’S BOUTIQUE, 156-133-2.

Pretty nice - and correct - little ass kicking here by The Cure

Told you all I wasn’t crazy for keeping and buying CDs

A vote so bad it prompted the creation of a log file, how to really listen, an alternate 90s music reality, what a pop hook is, youth bowling, hometown pride, a mortifying wedding reception, cocaine bathrooms, mall music, masturbating Tarzan, and bedroom voyeurs

This is RANGE
it is the PENULTIMATE match of @bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social ‘89! It took us almost six months to get here! we have compiled a list of our favorite posts from this tournament, AND I drew (poorly) every Venn diagram that we mentioned during the tournament

Mine was seeing “Friday I’m In Love” on MTV then I got Staring at the Sea on CD and my favorite tracks were “Let’s Go To Bed,” “Jumping Someone Else’s Train,” and “In Between Days”
my intro to the cure? 14 year old me making out with my 17 year old boyfriend while the top played

yes, the top was my intro to the cure
My intro to the Cure was Standing on a Beach. Most radio didn't play then early, you really had to find them, but a soon as you heard the opening track Killing an Arab, you knew this was something different and special.
