In NYC, you see celebs quietly going about their lives. I remember Diane Keaton in particular, because she was just ahead of me on line to enter a cinema on 3rd Ave. Alone, gracious, kind, radiant. She did not go to the head of the line to be seated early — as many celebs do. This one smarts. RIP.

If I was ever in love with an icon on a magazine cover, it wasn’t a rock ‘n roll star, but Secretariat, the triple crown winner of 1973 & GOAT. (By 1978 my affections ran to the jockey, Stevie Cauthen, & not the horse, Affirmed).

I Stand Up For Science. I believe RFKJr is doing irreparable harm. But I can imagine dozens of better ways to make your point than “one of our team, dressed as a duck, walking the halls of Congress, delivering hundreds of rubber ducks to our reps.” Rome is burning! Let’s #March4Science&Sanity

I think “Artificial Intelligence” doesn’t adequately describe this thing we all worry about. I conceive two components: “Synthetic Erudition” is when we believe it despite the fact that it’s frequently bizarre & nonsensical. “Synthetic Scholarship” is when we access or quote it authoritatively. #AI

I’m so glad this is true for you! 🙂 Over a long PDAC survival we lost about 85% of our friends. People who I later learned “just couldn’t handle it.” That was hard on Jay, but like you, most people - strangers even — showed him/us so much love & care. That’s why this community means so much to me.

I’ve been debating with myself whether it’s socially responsible to visit the Galapagos — I’ve wanted to do it since 1981 when I first read Darwin (TOOS). I feel ready to book it, but what about vessel emissions, trash, local economies, ecosystems, sustainability issues. Large ships are so awful.

Massive! Midtown completely closed down. Estimates are as high as 75k in attendance at the NYC No Kings protests — even in the rain. People as far as the eyes can see, densely packed, peaceful — but mad as hell at the havoc wreaked by the orange turd and his minions.
