A Colorado gal who knows a little about a lot: weather, photography, triathlon, mountains, AI for environmental sciences, travel, good food, great drinks, the best of friends, and plenty of stories.
If “hey siri what’s the high temperature today” is “the high temperature in Lafayette is going to be 72” one more time, I’m gunna lose it… mix of emotions because the days are lovely, but I’m kind of hot and bothered.

Irwin’s first light show as seen by our amazing satellites.
Last night, a severe geomagnetic storm painted magnificent colors of the northern lights across a starry canvas over North America.

Places that have now seen snowflakes before Denver:

❄️Nashville, TN
❄️Knoxville, TN
❄️Louisville, KY
❄️Indianapolis, IN
❄️Cincinnati, OH

All those have an average first snow more than a month later than Denver.

Weird times.

Boooooo.
More at/near record heat likely early next week as yet another big ridge moves in.

Then the potential pattern flip the following weekend (Nov. 15-17).

Some truly crazy rain totals in parts of the San Juans. Worst rainstorm in some spots in 80+ years.

Unfortunately...more rain on the way there tomorrow/Tuesday.

Highly unusual situation approaching western Colorado with the moisture from Hurricane Priscilla. Grand Junction has never had precipitable water over an inch (25mm) so late in the year, but looks like it will be near that level on both Fri & Sat. Six standard deviations above average! #cowx 1/2

The Lafayette Bubble made the forecast haha! Look at that dip in precip... What a weird year for water at #MyHouse.
Denver area storms will be mainly after 3/4p into this evening.

-Red Rocks: pack the ponchos
-BBQ tonight? I'd bring it inside

I'd generally advise indoor plans for both tonight and tomorrow night...both looking pretty stormy around town.

A complaint about work-life balance/boundaries: dislike a world that "demands higher security and 2 step authentication" b/c it involves my personal device. Work doesn't supply a cell phone, but it's necessary for these steps. So, to my personal life codes go and down at my phone I look 👎

Not a normal post for me, but wanted to call out King Soopers/Kroger for this business model; it really irks me. This cheese has always been $2.99. This "price drop" is on a price higher than I've ever seen. Food is going up in cost, sure, but company is taking advantage of marketing. Be advised.

That's a heck of an air mass difference right there.
7PM SMOKE UPDATE : Thick smoke splits the Metro area in half. Unhealthy air quality where it has hit. Just felt a few raindrops as well. Smoke is expected to improve gradually late night into Friday. #cowx

Neat thread on CO weather and climate.
Colorado statewide temps have increased 2.0° in the last 30 years, a notable spike that's turned a lot of borderline snow events into rain over the last 30 years.

2.0° is a big increase over a 30-year period, much higher than other months of the year.

My confidence in these outlooks is never super very high, especially with the size of this week’s H pressure ridge, but right now hope is kind of all we have out here. Fingers and toes crossed.
Finally, a pattern change on the way for western Colorado! Model forecasts of precipitable water (total water vapor in the atmosphere) at Grand Junction show more hot and dry this week, but then some real moisture next wk. Too early to say how much rain or drought relief, but a welcome sight.🤞 #cowx
