UPDATE: I wasn’t selected to serve on the panel. At least I had a chance to catch up with some of my friends who worked at the courthouse. Overall, not a bad way to spend a Monday.

I got settled into my airplane seat. I was nervous for my hearing, but excited to get some experience. Then, my phone buzzed. It’s a PACER notification? “The Court, on its own motion, continues the hearing date.“ The feeling of dread sunk in as I heard: “ladies and gentlemen, prepare for takeoff.”

On the first day of Christmas, the Court gave to me a favorable judgment. But actually tho.

I thank the stars that I commute to work on the metro, rather than driving. The years of driving to school and then work were giving me hypertension. At least now I can sit down and then fester until I get to my stop.

One of the cases I’m tracking at the Supreme Court of Maryland is No. 34 In the Matter of the Marriage of Houser, which involves the issue of whether a court can order a parent to pay child support, despite both parents agreeing to waive the child support obligation. 👀

UPDATE: We survived, but the driver definitely hit the curb. So this is the alleged Terrible Maryland Driver™️ I’ve heard so much about (I say as a Maryland driver apologist).
That moment your Uber driver is a certified hazard with the dual skills of driving dangerously slow *and* using two lanes. Will today finally be the end? Who knows?
