I think you nailed it with something that rotates out from the slot, but it has to be something that can be used with a right angled handle and won’t fold back under use. So maybe a razor or other one sided blade? Swiss army knives are popular for a reason - they’re incredibly useful.

Very few of us live up to our potential. We make compromises, and sometimes those help the people around us, and sometimes its just easier. Forgive yourself. Forgive them. Remember. Atone if you have to. Live.

I assume we’re talking about questions like “ Is there a viable gene therapy for sickle cell disease”, because anything else is probably gross.

ah, missing the broader context, since I’ve only heard him on this show. It‘s clear that in other battles - Breed’s hill and the retreat from Concord - muskets were quite effective at killing people.

I think Atkinson’s claim was that the people who died in this particular battle, fought by troops in an open field, were mostly killed by being bayonetted, rather than by musket balls. Presumably many people were first injured by the musket fire, making them easier to kill.

Your evidence seems to support Atkinson’s claim. Washington’s letters show that he tried to prevent long range firing, because firing at long ranges was ineffective. How does this conflict with Atkinson’s claim that muskets were inaccurate beyond 80 yards?

I’m not sure that either trust or understanding applies. I often enjoy your posts. On twitter, I might have debated something, before the walruses took over and made debating tedious. The nuclear block makes disagreement with a large account on Bluesky the road to an empty timeline.

“National Dock and Storage” brings up a lot, but perhaps that’s not the same company?

I am on my way back from a Fri-Sun visit to NYC, and for about that price I got a room you could not swing a cat in with a shared bathroom down the hall, so I am suitably impressed.

Did you have the new touchscreens at your polling site, and if so, how did they work? Any glitches/tips a poll worker or voter should know about?

Trump justified deporting people on the basis of their tattoos.

A turn against political violence, or different demographics? The people who turned out for NoKings probably never supported political violence. The surprise, if there is one, is that protests weren’t met with violence by other groups who support its use.

Sell it to Republicans. It encourages people to have kids. They can’t ”blame the victim” for poor health if they’re a kid. It just doesn’t make economic sense to ignore the health of children. A kid whose health needs aren’t met early on may not be able to work as an adult.

I worked in industry after graduating with a Physics Ph.D, and ended up with 40+ patents. A great career, with many fascinating problems to solve, and no grant proposals to write. I did not use Green’s functions, but the training in recognizing and stating assumptions was solid.

The historical victory of vaccines (and public sanitation) over mass illness + the growth of diseases that are impacted by personal behavior. Doctors, media and the government have leapt on the responibilty bandwagon. Eat right. Exercise. Don’t smoke. Don’t drink. Brush your teeth.

Was that what he meant when he said he was “very dissapointed” in Putin? Not about Ukraine at all? The Russian bots that were so very active have fallen off. Has Putin gottten the message that he needs to up the disinfo game? Am I being paranoid? It’s hard to tell anymore.

Black lives matter protesters were routinely teargassed and shot with rubber bullets while peacefully protesting. People were blinded in one eye. The administration amped up anti-fa as a spooky terrorist org, and police acted on the message.
