Fall in New York. Goldenrod, Poke berries and a field of yellowing kidney beans. One glorious sunny day after another. We’re in the midst of a New York drought, which means that its only rained a few times in the last month. I expect it’ll be a great year for finger lakes wine.

The Erie canal in Bushnell’s Basin is lined with black locust trees in full flower. Trees 60-100’ high, bedecked and fragrant, the canal and towpath strewn with white petals

Dogs shouldn’t eat chocolate because if they do scarf down that slice of chocolate cake you left on the counter they’re going to dig up half your garden. Speaking from experience.

I am not biking between a mother goose and her goslings, but I wish they’d make up their mind which way they’re going

Payton has gotten away from me before. She’s also slammed me against a tree chasing deer and dragged my husband on his back through a patch of poison ivy. But look at those sweet brown eyes. When not after game she’s a sweetheart.

White brook decanting into the Erie Canal on a winter morning and the snow-covered plank bridge crossing the outflow.

Canal drained for the winter between yesterday and today. Just a miles long ice rink waiting for a freeze now.

The polls have closed in NYS after an uneventful and unexpectedly gorgeous election day. The red bag has been delivered to the BOE, and I am winding down with 🧀 and 🍷

Exploring the world yesterday via Ingress, and found Hart’s Woods, a nearby trail I didn’t know about, and a seriously over-the-top Halloween house.

Happiness is a warm pup, sitting on your lap in 45 degree weather by the lake shore as you wait for the aurora to show. My phone doesn’t have night mode, so this is pretty much what was visible to the naked eye.

intrigued, I found a copy on gutenburg.org.
After learning that they are bankrupt, four (previously rich) orphan girls face the prospect of earning their daily bread.

Perinton off leash dog park. Asters, ripe bunches of wild grape on yellowing vines. Suck out the sweetness and spit the seeds. Mia played frisbee till she stepped on something. Limped back to the car and forgot her foot was sore after a dip in the stream.

Decided to walk a section of the Auburn rail-trail I hadn’t been on before. Turned out to be on a narrow ridge crossing a river valley. Must have been quite the feat to build! Returned with wet feet and a very wet dog, thanks to an overly optimistic weather forecast. Still worth it.
