a graph from EJ antoni showing not-in-labor-force levels increasing above a trendline with the caption "The number of people not in the labor force rose again in Apr to 5 million above pre-pandemic level and much more above the pre-pandemic trend; this figure had peaked in Aug '18 and fell 1.2 million before the gov't-imposed lockdowns began in early '20". I replied "lol this is among the funniest bad trendlines I have ever seen. Any basic pre-COVID projection that accounts for the aging of the US population would expect not-in-labor-force levels (mostly retirees) to increase and this implies they should actually start declining for no reason"
