Congratulations to First Amendment Watch at NYU for launching the SLAPP Back Initiative, the first database in the U.S. documenting alleged SLAPPS.

SLAPPS are meritless or malicious legal actions that can financially cripple and ultimately silence critical voices, including journalists.

Animal rescuer Zoe Rosenberg was just found guilty of felony conspiracy and 3 misdemeanors for her rescue of four chickens from Perdue's Petaluma Poultry. Zoe was represented by Chris Carraway, of Animal Activist Legal Defense Project (@AALDP-DU.bsky.social), and attorney Kevin Little.

This type of surveillance erodes our constitutional right to free speech. It's an intentional tactic to being used to weaken opposition to the Trump administration by scaring dissenters into silence.

News outlets are right to not play along with the Defense Department directive that tries to force reporters to only publish information officially authorized by the department.

This is government censorship, plain and simple.
Media outlets, including Fox News and CNN, refuse to sign Pentagon's press access rules | CNN Business
The Pentagon is telling beat reporters to sign restrictive new rules by Tuesday or surrender their press passes by Wednesday. Many news organizations are rejecting the ultimatum and saying they will not sign.
