Just cracked myself up when I stumbled on a mock back patch design from last year: "Stop animal testing. We're bad at math. :( "

You know who cares about detransitioners? *Trans people*. We’re painfully aware of how intertwined our struggles are: bodily and legal autonomy; access to safe and convenient medical care; freedom from stigma and poverty. And many detrans people know it and stand with us, just like we support them.

Most owners teach their dogs to play dead, but that doesn’t capture Winston’s dramatic flair. Instead, I’ve taught her to perish.

Crashed in bed as soon as I got home from work today, and Nurse Winston was right on top of things with her snuggles. Now that I’m awake, she’s requesting payment for services rendered in the form of chin rubs.

@nosuchthingshow.bsky.social, I loved your coverage of the urban/suburban dog question. Would you consider a follow-up looking at how urban centers can be made more dog-friendly (and people-friendly)? Reducing noise pollution, building quality dog parks, dismantling housing discrimination, etc.?

Working on a post about police mistreatment of K-9 units, and an un-fun fact I've picked up is how you can respond if the cops ever shoot your dog: suing on Fourth Amendment grounds. Because dogs are legally property, courts have ruled that having them taken (out) by the State is 'unlawful seizure'.

Shoutout to the puppers and their people at the immigration rally today. Heck ICE!
February 21, 2025 at 11:30 PM
Damn right. I’ll be at an immigration-related protest in a few hours.
“These sorts of protests are now following each new Trump decree, every agency Musk has ravaged. The sites are expanding: from DC sidewalks to Congressional offices, from Stonewall to Tesla dealerships.”

Where Do You Protest Elon Musk? Everywhere, It Turns Out.
From Stonewall to Tesla dealerships, protesters are pioneering a form of opposition that doesn't necessarily center on Washington, D.C..

Putting this out there:

The systems that keep HIV antiretroviral therapy affordable and available are fragile, and once you’re off your meds, the virus comes back. Similar idea for PrEP. If those systems start to fray, a whole lot of people here are going to suffer and die, just like with USAID.

Bigots want to believe everyone shares their cruelty. Show them they’re wrong.
Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes.

You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment.

My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc.

I was brought up on dreams of solving the world’s problems. Maybe I’d write a novel that would inspire millions. Maybe I’d cure the common cold. Maybe I’d map a new galaxy. If I wasn’t up to it, someone else surely would be.

No one warned me how few of us would ever be allowed to make a difference.

Considering bringing your dog to a protest? Here's how you can gauge your readiness and prepare accordingly.
If you give a pup a protest...

TIL that one of the horrible landlord attorneys I used to butt heads with in San Francisco went through a messy law firm breakup with his business partner/fellow landlord attorney/brother in 2022. 😊

All I ever wanted as a trans man was to make life a little easier for the next generation. Fifteen years on T is a celebration of survival, of pretending I don't care about all the red tape, condescension, and degradation I've had to break through to keep my body going. And I got off lucky. 1/
February 16, 2025 at 1:49 AM
Happy 15 years on T to me! In the time and place where I started my transition, finding a physician willing to work with me was a stroke of implausible luck. Thanks to him, I've been able to grow through adulthood in a body that (mostly) feels like mine.

Gender-affirming care is life-changing.

Me: Winston's drugs just arrived
Friend: Oh? What drugs are those?
Me: They help her sleep
Friend: Opium?
Me: Not approved for dogs
Friend: Morphine?
Me: That's opium
Friend: Cocaine? Meth?

Y'all, they were melatonin chews

We screamed at Seattle Children's Hospital today, and we're gonna keep on screaming until they reinstate an acceptable standard of care for trans kids.
If you're screaming at a hospital about teen trans care, keep screaming.
Incredible news. After immense pressure and threats of protest, Children's Wisconsin has reinstated treatment for at least one trans teen under its care.

Several hospitals across the country determined their fear of Trump's illegal EO was more important than their trans patients.

Winston agrees that we need to stand up for trans rights, but she draws the line at calling any humans ‘hot’.
