Stuart Fork Creek, Shasta-Trinity National Forest, CA. Felt like a PNW kind of day.

Or beef. And it’s just getting started.
Any American who thinks Trump has somehow lowered the price of groceries obviously doesn't drink coffee.

Heck of a month. Worked four fires, with two of em getting the most attention. Plenty of long days, but not as hard as the folks pulling 14-day swings on the fire line. Anyway, some pics on the trap line and at camp…

As a kid I was a metal head, and all those Ozzy tunes were huge in those circles. Anyone with an affinity for heavy metal music knows that the genre doesn’t exist without Black Sabbath and it’s wildman vocalist Ozzy Osborne.

First day off after 12 straight at work. At the gym feeling the effects of that but otherwise taking my down time seriously. Fire season is no joke.

Fire season off to a fast start

Some sweet scenery on Shasta Lake, but you can also make out the haze from a nearby fire, the Green Fire. Fire season starting with a bang.

NEW: The death shadow cast by Musk.

“When U.S.-supported soup kitchens were forced to close, babies starved quietly, their mothers said, while older siblings died begging for food.”

The world’s richest man did this to the world’s poorest children.

Don’t ever forget.
In Sudan, where children clung to life, doctors say USAID cuts have been fatal
The Trump administration’s cuts to USAID had an immediate and deadly impact in war-ravaged Sudan, according to civilians, doctors and aid officials.

Little late with these, but a couple weeks back our firefighters went through their readiness review: exercises designed to simulate wildfire scenarios. In one exercise, live fire was used. Very cool couple of days, and privileged to be there. The SHF firefighters are ready for fire season.

🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right now—but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands.

Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧵

One million casualties of war for Russia. At least a quarter of that are dead. And for what? To feed the ego of one man.
These are the indicative estimates of Russia’s combat losses as of June 13, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Never underestimate the fire in the belly of Ukraine. Masterful operation with real battlefield impact.

Thunder just dog walking Minnesota right now. Up by 33 at the half. T-Wolves scored 9 in the first quarter.

Quick holiday hike at Whiskeytown Lake. Tried to make a friend.

The Nuggets are my team, but OKC is a close second. So while it’s a bummer Denver won’t be competing for a second championship, I’m pulling for the Thunder to get that chip.

My office for part of the day today. This is a big college kid party weekend for students in Oregon and California, and s bunch of em come to Shasta Lake. So we went out to give them trash bags for their campsites and generally tell them to have fun but be safe.

Memphis bench wishing for the mercy rule in OKC right now. Wow. 107-55 in the third quarter.

Another big blow to public lands agencies. USFS, NPS and more get a lot of their new fire, fuels, forestry, recreation and biology employees from the AmeriCorps ranks. CCC folks learn the trade on the job as volunteers as HS and college students.
Volunteers with AmeriCorps’ National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) program were abruptly ordered to pack up and go home, with little explanation. It’s part of the latest round of cuts pushed by Elon Musk.

I’m building playlists. One is R&B, the other jazz. They’re a little sparse. Give me suggestions.
