The United Way in New Jersey publish an annual "ALICE Report", where they calculate a 'survival budget' for living in New Jersey. For a family with 2 adults and 2 kids, they estimate it at $111,504, which is lower than, but not a million miles off the Michael Green analysis...

yeah, you're right, the "1.6%" figure is actually from some recent academic paper, which I guess shows that many definitions of poverty are available, depending on how you slice it...

The building was built as the Frick Chemical Laboratory in 1929. It must have been a curiously anachronistic style even at that time. After the chemistry labs relocated, the building was extensively renovated for use by economics / policy people. Remarkable contrast between the inside and outside!

The Julis Romo Rabinowitz Building on Princeton University Campus, where we held our 'Walk Bike Princeton' AGM today. Good meeting!!

New Jersey statehouse Democrats' key policy of "funneling tax breaks to rich retired boomers" through 'StayNJ', 'Senior Freeze' etc seems to have worked quite well in the gubernatorial election. I would normally expect old people to be more Republican, but it wasn't true in this election.

There seems to be quite a lot of good people on this housing action task force. And also Mike Cerra, the Executive Director of the NJ League of Municipalities.

Phil "the breakdancing NIMBY" Thilly returned to the town council meeting in Cranford NJ dressed in a Bermuda shirt, with a Flavor Flav-style clock on him, and spinning a giant beach ball. Everyone hates this guy, but I actually kinda enjoy his schtick! www.nj.com/union/2025/1...

Our 'Walk Bike Princeton' Annual General Meeting is happening this Sunday, Nov 23, from 3-5 p.m. Come join us and talk about how to make Princeton more walk- and bike-friendly!
And thanks to 'Town Topics' newspaper for giving us a bit of publicity today!

Grainy pic, but if you happen to recognize this Princeton bike thief, contact the cops. I hate bike thieves.

They can take the train to MetLife! And famously some people have even walked there in the past!

The app doesn't work either. A lot of people rely on the app for ticketing. This must be causing chaos this morning.

Lower Pyne is one of the more famous buildings in Princeton, directly across from Princeton University, and home to 'Hamilton Jewellers' on the first floor. I didn't know this, but the third floor is a luxury condo - and it's for sale. 2-bed, 1-ba. $1.5m. www.sothebysrealty.com/callawayhend...

One thing I have gotten much more wary about in recent years is anonymous apartment listings on sites like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. I used to assume that most of the listings were legit, with a few scams. Now I think it is the other way round! Mostly scams, with a few legit listings!!

Incoming New Jersey governor Mikie Sherrill plans "to upgrade gas-power generation so that we drive down carbon emissions". I'm curious about what that means...
